Baluchari sarees are handwoven in Baluchari and Dasharipur in West Bengal, valued for their intricate figurative motifs. Crafted in both silk and cotton, they are distinguished by motifs of trees, peacocks, scenes from the Mahabharata and Ramayana, and glimpses of Bengal’s aristocratic past. Most Baluchari sarees feature delicate motifs running across the body, complemented by contrasting borders that enhance their visual appeal.

Each Baluchari motif is meticulously woven using traditional extra-weft techniques, creating remarkable detail while lending the saree a subtle texture and depth that become an integral part of the weave.

Today, Baluchari weaving is preserved by a select group of master artisans, making every saree a rare and collectible piece of handloom heritage.
