Paturu Pattu is a distinctive handloom saree woven in Paturu village of Kovur mandal in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district. Named after the village itself, it is known for its unique cotton–silk construction that balances comfort with elegance.

Developed by the weavers of Paturu in the early twentieth century, Paturu Pattu is traditionally woven using a blend of approximately 60% cotton and 40% silk. Fine-count cotton yarn forms the warp, while 3-ply silk is used in the weft, a construction that reverses the arrangement found in most silk–cotton sarees. This distinctive combination gives the saree a lightweight, breathable feel while retaining the gentle sheen associated with silk.

Paturu Pattu sarees are recognised for their characteristic borders, including the celebrated Jumping Checks pattern, vibrant geometric designs, and traditional temple motifs. Woven on pit looms by generations of weaving families, the craft survives today through only a small number of master weavers, making authentic Paturu Pattu sarees increasingly rare and sought after.
